Correll providing termination, testing support for North Sea Thor wind project

SPIE Group’s Correll to Provide Critical Termination and Testing Support for North Sea Thor Wind Project

Once fully commissioned in 2027, the partners say the more than 1-GW Thor project will become Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm.

In a strategic move to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the North Sea Thor offshore wind farm, SPIE Global Services Energy’s subsidiary, Correll, has secured a contract with Jan De Nul to perform critical termination and testing on 72 wind turbine generators. The project, led by developer RWE, is set to become Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm, with a planned capacity exceeding 1 GW.

#### Key Highlights:

– **Project Scope**: Correll will undertake the 66-kV termination and testing on 72 wind turbine generators, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance of the wind turbines.
– **Cable Installation**: The contract also involves the manufacture and installation of 60 km of export cables and approximately 200 km of inter-array cables by a joint venture between Hellenic Cables and Jan De Nul Group.
– **Offshore Installation**: The offshore installation and commissioning of the cable system are expected to take place in 2025, with the cable laying vessel (CLV) Connector operated by Jan De Nul.
– **Onshore Substation**: The onshore substation, to be built by Siemens Energy in the municipality of Lemvig, is also part of the project, with construction activities expected to start shortly.

#### RWE’s Strengthened Commitment:

RWE has been diligently preparing for this major offshore wind project, selecting preferred suppliers for all main components. This includes wind turbines, foundations, export and inter-array cables, as well as onshore and offshore substations. The 72 offshore wind turbines, each from the SG 14-236 DD model by Siemens Gamesa, are designed to be environmentally friendly, featuring GreenerTowers that reduce CO2 emissions by at least 63%.

#### Developer’s Background:

Thor Wind Farm I/S, owned by RWE AG, has been at the forefront of Denmark’s ambitious renewable energy initiatives. The Danish Energy Agency’s approval of the feasibility study in March 2024 marked a significant milestone, paving the way for the project’s establishment and integration into the grid by the end of 2027. When fully operational, the Thor wind farm will supply enough green electricity to power more than one million Danish households, contributing significantly to Denmark’s climate targets.

#### Conclusion:

SPIE Group’s Correll is integral to the successful execution of the North Sea Thor wind project. By ensuring the robust
