INEOS adds compressor to step up gas from North Sea Breagh field

**INEOS Enhances Gas Production with Cutting-edge Compressor Installation in North Sea Breagh Field**

INEOS Energy announced Oct. 10 the startup of the electric-driven compressor at the Teesside Gas Processing Plant, which it says will significantly boost gas flows from the INEOS-operated Breagh gas field.

In a significant move to boost gas production and reduce carbon emissions, INEOS Energy has successfully launched an electric-driven compressor at the Teesside Gas Processing Plant in northeast England. This innovative investment is aimed at enhancing gas flows from the Breagh natural gas field in the UK’s southern North Sea.

The Breagh field, operated by INEOS Energy, is renowned for its low carbon intensity. The 12-slot minimum facility wellhead platform featuring 11 production wells is connected via a 100-kilometer wet gas export pipeline to the beach. An additional 11 kilometers of onshore pipeline transports the gas to the Teesside Gas Processing Plant, owned by North Sea Midstream Partners, for further processing and delivery into the UK National Transmission System.

The introduction of the electric-driven compressor represents a crucial step towards electrifying operations in the North Sea, a commitment that aligns with the industry’s goal to halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Electric compressors offer a significant advantage over traditional gas-driven alternatives by producing gas flows with a lower carbon footprint, thereby reducing the field’s overall environmental impact.

This strategic initiative underscores INEOS Energy’s dedication to sustainable energy practices. David Bucknall, INEOS Energy CEO, highlighted the importance of the project, emphasizing its role in securing domestic gas supplies for UK homes and industry, while also contributing to the nation’s energy transition.

The Teesside Gas Processing Plant, which processes gas from both the Central and Southern North Sea, is a vital facility equipped with advanced capabilities. It boasts two processing trains capable of handling up to 675 million cubic feet of gas per day, meeting approximately 10% of the UK’s gas demand. This setup reinforces INEOS Energy’s commitment to reliable and sustainable gas production, ensuring a stable supply of natural gas for domestic needs.

In conclusion, the installation of the electric-driven compressor at the Breagh natural gas field not only enhances gas production but also underscores INEOS Energy’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable practices within the oil and gas industry.
