**Lamprell to Supply Transition Pieces for RWE’s UK Offshore Wind Farms**
In a significant development for the renewable energy sector, Lamprell Energy has been awarded two key contracts by German utility RWE to supply transition pieces for its Norfolk Vanguard West and Norfolk Vanguard East offshore wind projects, collectively known as the Norfolk Offshore Wind Zone.
The contracts underscore RWE’s commitment to advancing the development of these significant projects, which are poised to have a combined installed capacity of 2.8 GW once fully operational. This capacity is substantial enough to generate electricity for more than 4 million typical UK homes—equivalent to powering the entire London region.
The scope of the contract requires Lamprell to manufacture and supply 2 x 92 transition pieces for each of the wind farms. Additionally, the structures will need to be transported to RWE’s designated marshalling port, marking the comprehensive involvement of Lamprell in the development process.
The fabrication of these transition pieces will be carried out using Lamprell’s state-of-the-art serial production line, which was commissioned last year. This facility has already demonstrated its capabilities by delivering over 60 similar structures for a Scottish wind farm, thereby underscoring its efficiency in high-capacity production.
Ian Prescott, CEO of Lamprell, highlighted the company’s commitment to delivering high-quality wind turbine foundation structures that support the global transition towards renewable energy: “We are honored to be partnering with RWE on the Norfolk Vanguard projects. This contract award highlights Lamprell’s commitment to delivering high-quality wind turbine foundation structures that support the global transition towards renewable energy. We are grateful to RWE for their trust and look forward to a long and successful partnership as we work together to contribute to the UK’s renewable energy ambitions.”
RWE’s continued investment in offshore wind energy aligns with the UK’s ambitious plan to quadruple its offshore wind capacity by 2030, aimed at delivering a net-zero power system and securing reliable long-term clean power sources.
The first-phase development of the Norfolk Offshore Wind Zone includes onshore construction of substations and underground cable routes between Necton and Happisburgh, which has already commenced. As a future step, RWE will enter the Norfolk Vanguard projects into a Contracts for Difference auction, further solidifying their strategic development.
With these contracts, Lamprell reinforces its position as a leading supplier of wind turbine foundation structures, while RWE sec
