**Vard to Construct Second Hybrid-Powered Vessel for Island Offshore**
At the recent ONS 2024 event, Vard—the Norwegian subsidiary of the Fincantieri Group—announced that it has signed a contract with Island Offshore to design and build a second hybrid-powered Ocean Energy Construction Vessel (OECV). This new contract further cements the partnership between the two companies, which had already inked an agreement in May for one firm OECV with options for two sister vessels.
### Key Features of the Vessel
The state-of-the-art Ocean Energy Construction Vessel will measure 120 meters in length and 25 meters in beam. It will be equipped with a 250-ton heave-compensated offshore subsea crane, designed for efficient and versatile operations. The vessel can accommodate up to 130 personnel, providing top-tier facilities for both crew and clients.
### Technical Capabilities
The OECV will be equipped with advanced systems for subsea operations, including inspection, maintenance, and repair (IMR); pipe-laying; subsea infrastructure construction, installation, and diving support. It also features two launch and recovery systems (LARS) for ROV operations and is prepared for walk-to-work gangway use, making it highly versatile for projects in renewable energy, such as cable laying and trenching.
### Energy Efficiency and Sustainability
The vessel will incorporate a 1,7 MWh Energy Storage System for hybrid propulsion, enhancing its sustainable capabilities. Additionally, it comes equipped with a Heat Recovery System for efficient energy usage and preparation for alternative low-emission fuel, underscoring Vard’s commitment to green solutions.
### Vard’s Role as a Total Provider
As a total provider, Vard will deliver the design, build the hull, and outfit the vessel, ensuring the highest standards of performance and efficiency. Vard Electro, a high-tech subsidiary of Vard, will contribute SeaQ equipment and sustainable solutions, including SeaQ Power with energy storage systems, SeaQ shore connection, and SeaQ Bridge with full integration and extensive communication networks.
### Onboard Facilities
The vessel will feature modern interior solutions by Vard Interiors, incorporating energy-efficient HVAC R systems, creating a comfortable living and working environment onboard. The SeaQ Control system, with its innovative portable monitoring station, will enhance operator flexibility and
