Petronas commissions 3D survey offshore Suriname

**Petronas Unveils Major 3D Seismic Survey Initiative Offshore Suriname**

In a significant move to amplify exploration efforts in the Suriname-Guyana basin, Petronas has commissioned a large-scale 3D seismic survey. This project, spanning 6,000 square kilometers, underscores Petronas’s strategic engagement in the region’s prolific hydrocarbon zone. Shearwater Geoservices, a renowned offshore seismic services specialist, has been awarded the contract.

The survey marks the continuation of Shearwater’s close collaboration with Petronas in this frontier area, building upon their previous data acquisition work in Block 52. The Amazon Warrior vessel will be deployed for the three-month operation, commencing in the fourth quarter of 2024.

High-quality seismic data is crucial for unlocking the vast resource potential of the Suriname-Guyana basin, as it accelerates exploration activities and supports ambitious endeavors in the region. Shearwater’s state-of-the-art technology and capabilities ensure the safe and efficient collection of high-quality seismic data, aligning with Petronas’s objectives in this exciting new frontier.

This initiative follows recent discoveries in the area, including a hydrocarbon find at the Fusaea-1 exploration well within Block 52. The discovery revealed multiple oil and gas-bearing Campanian sandstone reservoirs, further highlighting the region’s potential.

Petronas Suriname E&P operates Block 52 with a 50% interest, while ExxonMobil holds the remaining stake. This collaboration underscores both companies’ commitment to exploring the vast hydrocarbon reserves in the Suriname-Guyana basin.
