In a significant move in the oil and gas industry, Shearwater Geoservices has been awarded a major contract by TotalEnergies to conduct a deepwater ocean-bottom node (OBN) survey in Angola. This projecct marks the latest collaboration between the two energy giants, with Shearwater deploying its cutting-edge seismic acquisition technology to enhance exploration and production efforts in the region.

The survey will take place in Block 32, specifically targeting the Louro and Mostarda fields, where Shearwater has previously conducted a 4D streamer survey for TotalEnergies. This new OBN survey, set to commence in January 2025, is expected to span two and a half months and will utilize Shearwater’s state-of-the-art SW Tasman vessel. Equipped with dual remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), the SW Tasman is designed for seismic node laying and has been upgraded in 2023 to meet the evolving needs of deepwater operations.

Shearwater’s Pearl compact node technology will be central to the project. The Pearl node, known for its high endurance and performance, has been continuously improving since its introduction last year. This technology will ensure high-quality data acquisition, critical for reservoir management and exploration strategies.

The deployment of the SW Tasman, alongside the source vessel SW Gallien, signifies Shearwater’s commitment to delivering advanced seismic solutions in challenging deepwater environments. The Louro and Mostarda fields, part of the Kaombo ultra-deepwater project that began production in July 2018, will benefit from this innovative approach, leveraging two floating, production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessels, Kaombo Norte and Kaombo Sul.

Shearwater CEO Irene Waage Basili expressed satisfaction with the performance of the SW Tasman/Pearl OBN platform, noting its continuous operation since last year. Basili highlighted the platform’s unique capabilities in introducing deepwater OBN to new areas of operations, further emphasizing Shearwater’s leadership in the seismic acquisition market.

This contract follows Shearwater’s recent allocation of resources for another significant project in Ghana, further demonstrating the company’s global operational capabilities and commitment to client satisfaction.
