Shell’s Akselos Partnership Enhances Digital Monitoring Capabilities
Akselos, a Swiss provider of structural performance management software, has signed a strategic enterprise agreement with Shell Information Technology International B.V. This partnership will allow Shell to leverage Akselos’ Structural Performance Management (SPM) software to monitor the structural health of critical assets across its extensive portfolio.
The agreement will extend the use of Akselos’ SPM software to projects such as Shell Pearl GTL in Qatar, Shell Scotford in Canada, the Bonga FPSO, and various deployments in the Gulf of Mexico. By deploying Akselos’ SPM software, Shell will be able to monitor the performance of its assets in real time, enabling enhanced asset performance, uninterrupted operations, and extended asset life.
Thomas Leurent, CEO of Akselos, commended Shell’s expertise in plant operations, new energy innovations, and technical know-how, noting that it aligns well with Akselos’ competencies. The new agreement will see Akselos become Shell’s primary partner for asset performance monitoring software, further expanding Akselos’ footprint across the Shell enterprise.
Akselos’ SPM software uses simulation technology to optimize asset performance and ensure safe operations at maximum output. This technology involves creating digital models of assets that accurately depict their physical structures, which are continuously updated with loading conditions and inspection data. This capability allows Shell to conduct structural assessments based on near real-time data from remote locations, thereby improving asset design and operational efficiency.
The partnership between Akselos and Shell underscores Shell’s commitment to enhancing its digital monitoring capabilities and modernizing its operations. This agreement is the latest in a series of collaborations between the two companies, following an earlier enterprise framework agreement for the use of Akselos’ digital twin technology.
Earlier this month, Shell also formalized a long-term agreement with L&T Technology Services, which will provide digital engineering services, data governance for capital projects, and digital project management consultancy across Shell’s global assets. These collaborations aim to improve operational efficiency, extend asset life, and enhance overall performance across Shell’s extensive portfolio.
