Chevron starts production at Gulf of Mexico Anchor field

**Chevron Marks a Milestone in Deepwater Energy Production with Anchor Field Start-Up**

In a significant achievement for the oil and gas industry, Chevron Corporation has successfully initiated oil and natural gas production from the Anchor field, located in the deepwater U.S. Gulf of Mexico. This milestone signifies the deployment of industry-first high-pressure technologies, allowing Chevron to tap into previously inaccessible oil reserves and paving the way for similar future deepwater developments.

The Anchor project represents a technological breakthrough, leveraging state-of-the-art “20K-rated” systems capable of operating at pressures of up to 20,000 psi. This innovative technology extends deepwater exploration capabilities, with reservoir depths reaching as far as 34,000 feet below sea level. The project demonstrates Chevron’s commitment to advancing operations in challenging environments, enhancing the company’s strategic position in the energy sector.

Located approximately 225 kilometers off the coast of Louisiana in the Green Canyon area, the Anchor field will produce 75,000 barrels of oil per day and 28 million cubic feet of natural gas daily. The production unit is connected to a semi-submersible floating production unit (FPU) with seven subsea wells. This design capacity underscores Chevron’s focus on efficient and sustainable operations, with potential recoverable resources estimated at up to 440 million barrels of oil equivalent.

To minimize environmental impact, the Anchor FPU has been designed as an all-electric facility. This innovative setup utilizes electric motors and electronic controls along with waste heat and vapor recovery technologies. Additionally, the facility leverages existing pipeline infrastructure to transport oil and natural gas directly to U.S. Gulf Coast markets. This integrated approach not only reduces carbon emissions but also supports local economic growth by providing reliable, affordable energy.

**Chevron’s Operational Leadership in the Region**

With the Anchor field now operational, Chevron boasts its sixth operated facility currently producing in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. This region is one of the lowest carbon intensity oil and gas basins globally. Chevron’s operated
