Survey: As the Electric Grid Struggles to Meet New Demand, How Are Oil and Gas Companies Getting the Clean Energy They Need?

**Navigating the Clean Energy Gap: How Oil and Gas Companies Are Adapting to the Electrification of Energy Needs**

The oil and gas industry is undergoing a significant transformation as the demand for clean energy continues to surge across various sectors. In the wake of dynamic changes in energy consumption patterns, oil and gas companies are struggling to meet their energy needs. A recent survey conducted by Endeavor Business Intelligence on behalf of NextEra Energy highlights the complexities and challenges faced by these companies as they navigate this energy transition.

### The Rising Tide of Electric Demand

Commercial electricity sales have seen a substantial increase in recent years, particularly in states critical to the oil and gas sector such as Texas, Oklahoma, North Dakota, and significant portions of the Western United States. This surge in demand has set off a competitive scramble among oil, gas, and other sectors vying for electricity to power their operations.

### Electrification Efforts in the Oil and Gas Sector

To mitigate the environmental impact and lower costs associated with traditional energy sources, a significant proportion of oil and gas operators are turning to electrification. According to the survey, 88% of oil and gas companies are either currently electrifying their operations or evaluating the possibility. This shift towards electrification underscores the industry’s commitment to reducing emissions and meeting escalating power requirements.

### Challenges Faced in Securing Clean Energy

Despite the growing commitment to electrification, oil and gas companies are encountering formidable challenges in securing clean energy supplies. At least half of the industry leaders surveyed reported that their companies were struggling to obtain the necessary energy in regions such as the Mountain West, Gulf Coast, and New England. The Upper Midwest also faces significant hurdles, with 44% of companies in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska reporting difficulties.

### Strategies for Securing Clean Energy

In response to these challenges, oil and gas companies are employing innovative strategies to access clean energy:
