**Location and Scope**
The project is set to be operational by the second half of 2026, transforming BP’s Castellón refinery into a cutting-edge, integrated energy hub. This endeavor involves constructing a 25 MW electrolyzer that will harness renewable electricity sourced from Iberdrola’s solar and wind projects. The electrolyzer consists of five 5 MW modules featuring containerized proton exchange membrane (PEM) technology supplied by Plug Power, a leading developer of green hydrogen solutions.

**Carbon Footprint Reduction**
The green hydrogen produced annually will amount to approximately 2,800 tons, significantly reducing the carbon dioxide emissions at the refinery by about 23,000 tons each year. This reduction is equivalent to the emissions of around 5,000 cars over the same period, demonstrating the project’s substantial contribution to environmental sustainability.

The project has secured a substantial funding boost of €15 million from the Innovative Value Chain and Renewable Hydrogen Knowledge support programs of the Spanish Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, funded by NextGenerationEU.
