TotalEnergies has proudly announced the commencement of gas production at the Fenix gas field, located 60 kilometers off the coast of Tierra del Fuego in southern Argentina. This significant milestone marks the culmination of a two-year journey since the Final Investment Decision was made. The development of Fenix has been touted as a resounding success, demonstrating TotalEnergies’ ability to deliver projects efficiently and effectively.
The Fenix field is a crucial component of the Cuenca Marina Austral 1 (CMA-1) concession, where TotalEnergies holds a 37.5% operated interest. Partnering with Harbour Energy (37.5%) and Pan American Energy (25%), this collaborative effort underscores the critical role of international partnerships in the oil and gas industry.
With a production capacity of 10 million cubic meters per day (70,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day), the Fenix development has achieved numerous milestones. The project includes a state-of-the-art unmanned platform installed in 70 meters of water depth and connected seamlessly to the existing CMA-1 infrastructure. This strategic integration allows for optimal operational efficiency and emphasizes the company’s commitment to leveraging existing infrastructure to enhance sustainability.
The gas produced at Fenix is transported through a 35-kilometer subsea pipeline to TotalEnergies’ Véga Pléyade platform. From there, it is processed onshore at the Río Cullen and Cañadon Alfa facilities, all of which are operated by TotalEnergies. This streamlined process not only ensures reliable supply chains but also paves the way for future expansions.
