Aker BP reaches first oil at Tyrving

**Aker BP Begins Oil Production from Tyrving Field Offshore Norway**

Aker BP has marked a significant milestone in the oil and gas industry by commencing oil production from the Tyrving field in the Alvheim area offshore Norway. This development leverages the planned extended lifetime for the Alvheim field, resulting in increased production while reducing both unit costs and CO₂ emissions per barrel.

The Tyrving field development consists of three wells and two new subsea installations (manifolds) that tie back to existing infrastructure at East Kameleon and further to the Alvheim FPSO. The recoverable resources estimated for Tyrving are approximately 25 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMboe). Aker BP is the operator of Tyrving with a 61.3% stake, while Petoro AS holds a 26.84% share, and PGNiG Upstream Norway AS owns 11.9%.

The Tyrving project was approved by the Norwegian Minister of Petroleum and Energy in June 2023. It is designed to drain the Trell and Trine reservoirs using bilateral horizontal producers. To enhance recovery rates, an additional branch is being drilled off one of the laterals in the Trell reservoir, and pilot wells are being drilled in both Tyrving structures to optimize landing within the reservoirs.

Aker BP’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in the Tyrving field’s exceptionally low CO₂ emissions, estimated at just 0.3 kilograms (kg) per barrel. This strategy aligns with the company’s broader greenhouse gas reduction efforts, aimed at achieving an emission intensity below 4 kg CO₂ per barrel oil equivalent by 2022.

Tyrving’s early start is a testament to Aker BP’s strategic planning and operational expertise. The company operates six field centers across the Norwegian continental shelf, including Alvheim, Edvard Grieg, Ivar Aasen, Skarv, Ula, and Valhall, and holds a significant partnership in the Johan Sverdrup field. Aker BP is built on the principles of exploration, field development, and production, and continues to explore new opportunities while maintaining its focus on efficiency and environmental sustainability.
