bpTT, EOG to develop offshore Trinidad gas resource

**Trinidad and Tobago Gears Up for Offshore Gas Production Expansion**

In a significant move to boost its gas reserves, bp Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT) and EOG Resources Trinidad have joined forces to develop the Coconut offshore natural gas field located in the Columbus basin, approximately 260 feet underwater off the southeast coast of Trinidad. This partnership marks another phase in the islands’ strategic plan to enhance oil and gas production, ensuring a sustainable future for the nation’s energy-dependent economy.

### A Strategic Partnership

The Coconut gas development is the latest collaboration between bpTT and EOG Resources, following previous successful ventures such as the EMZ field (2011), the Sercan gas field (2016), the Banyan field (2017), and the upcoming Mento field which is expected to come online by 2025. This 50/50 joint venture will see EOG assuming the role of operator, aiming to accelerate gas production while concurrently progressing other gas growth opportunities like the Ginger field development.

### Expanding Energy Horizons

David Campbell, President of bpTT, highlighted the significance of this partnership, stating, “This collaboration will not only expedite production from the Coconut field but also grant us greater flexibility to pursue other high-margin gas growth opportunities, ensuring a higher value Trinidad business with clear lines of sight to substantial high-margin growth in the coming years.”

The Coconut field’s development is just one part of a broader strategy to revitalize Trinidad’s gas reserves. The country aims to increase its gas production from approximately 2.88 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) in January 2022 to 3.28 Bcf/d by 2024, a 14% increase. Additionally, future projects like the Manatee field development and the Calypso deepwater project could potentially drive gas volumes above the 4 Bcf/d mark by 2027.
