### bp Trinidad and Tobago and EOG Resources Join Forces to Develop Offshore Gas Resource in Trinidad
In a significant development aimed at bolstering natural gas production in Trinidad and Tobago, bp Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT) and EOG Resources Trinidad have announced a partnership to develop the Coconut gas field, located off the southeast coast of Trinidad. This collaborative effort is expected to enhance both companies’ portfolios, particularly in deep-water exploration, which is a strategic focus for bp in the region.
#### The Partnership Details
The Coconut gas field, situated in the Columbus basin at a water depth of 260 feet, is the latest project being delivered through a joint venture between bpTT and EOG. This 50/50 partnership will see EOG taking the lead as operator. The development has already reached the final investment decision stage, with first gas expected to startup in 2027.
#### Historical Developments and Continued Growth
This partnership is part of a series of long-standing collaborations between bpTT and EOG. Previous joint ventures include EMZ (2011), Sercan (2016), and Banyan (2017). Additionally, the Mento field is set to come online by 2025, further demonstrating the commitment of both companies to sustained gas development in Trinidad.
#### Significance of the Project
The Coconut field holds nearly 1 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of natural gas, with plans to integrate it with another BP discovery, potentially increasing the total resource range to 1.5 tcf. This initiative aims to address the declining gas outputs from older fields by replenishing Trinidad’s premier liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility, Atlantic LNG. Atlantic LNG is a crucial component of BP’s LNG portfolio and a significant factor in Trinidad and Tobago’s status as Latin America’s largest LNG exporter.
