Chevron starts production at Gulf of Mexico Anchor field

**Chevron Launches Oil and Gas Production from Anchor Field in the US Gulf of Mexico**

Chevron has officially commenced oil and natural gas production from its Anchor project, a significant milestone in the deepwater US Gulf of Mexico. This Achievement marks the company’s sixth operated facility in the region, further solidifying Chevron’s presence in one of the world’s most petroleum-rich areas.

Located approximately 225 kilometers off the coast of Louisiana, the Anchor project was initiated in December 2019. The development consists of a system of subsea wells connected to a semi-submersible floating production unit (FPU). This FPU boasts an impressive production capacity of 75,000 barrels per day of oil and 28 million cubic feet per day of natural gas.

The Anchor FPU operates in water depths of approximately 5,000 feet (1,524 meters) and leverages advanced subsea high-pressure technology capable of withstanding pressures up to 20,000 psi. The reservoir depths reach an impressive 34,000 feet below sea level. The estimated total potentially recoverable resources from the Anchor field are up to 440 million barrels of oil equivalent over its 30-year lifespan.

To emphasize its commitment to sustainability, Chevron designed the Anchor FPU as an all-electric facility. This innovative approach minimizes greenhouse gas emissions through the use of electric motors and electronic controls. Additionally, the FPU utilizes waste heat and vapor recovery units to optimize energy efficiency. The integrated production system also leverages existing pipeline infrastructure for direct transportation of oil and natural gas to the US Gulf Coast markets.

“Chevron’s successful delivery of the Anchor project demonstrates our ability to execute complex deepwater operations safely and within budget,” said Bruce Niemeyer, President of Chevron Americas Exploration & Production. “The Anchor field provides much-needed, reliable, and lower-carbon-intensity oil and natural gas to meet regional energy demands while boosting economic activity for Gulf Coast communities.”
