**Chevron Commences Oil and Gas Production at the Anchor Field in the US Gulf of Mexico**
In a significant milestone for the energy industry, Chevron Corporation has initiated production from the Anchor field in the deepwater US Gulf of Mexico. This achievement marks the operational deployment of advanced high-pressure technology, enabling the extraction of previously challenging oil and gas resources.
Located approximately 225 kilometers off the coast of Louisiana, the Anchor field has been under development since December 2019. The project involves a semi-submersible floating production unit (FPU) connected to a system of seven subsea wells. The Anchor FPU boasts a substantial production capacity, with the ability to produce 75,000 barrels of oil per day and 28 million cubic feet of natural gas per day. These operations are taking place in the Green Canyon area, which is characterized by water depths of around 5,000 feet (1,524 meters).
The subsea high-pressure technology employed at Anchor is a major breakthrough, allowing safe operation at pressurized levels up to 20,000 psi. This innovation extends the reach of Chevron’s operations to reservoir depths reaching as deep as 34,000 feet below sea level. The Anchor field is estimated to contain up to 440 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMboe) in potentially recoverable resources.

To mitigate the environmental impact of operations, the Anchor FPU has been designed as an all-electric facility. This configuration utilizes electric motors and electronic controls to minimize greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, the FPU incorporates waste heat and vapor recovery technologies, ensuring that no waste is wasted and that operations are conducted efficiently. The transportation of oil and natural gas is facilitated through existing pipeline infrastructure, directly connecting to U.S. Gulf Coast markets.
