Former PGS CEO Takes Helm at Geoquip Marine

Rune Olav Pedersen

Geoquip Marine, a leading provider of offshore geotechnical engineering and drilling services, has announced the appointment of Rune Olav Pedersen as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) effective January 1, 2025. This significant leadership change underscores the company’s continued expansion and commitment to excellence in the offshore energy sector.

Rune Olav Pedersen brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having spent the last 14 years at PGS. During his tenure, he successfully led the company through a transformative period, including a successful turnaround and merger with TGS. His extensive industry knowledge and strategic expertise will be invaluable as Geoquip Marine navigates its next phase of growth.

Prior to his role at PGS, Pedersen was a partner in the Oil and Energy practice at Arntzen de Besche. He currently serves as a non-executive director on the boards of Norwegian oil producer OKEA and Brazilian oil and gas producer Seacrest Petroleo Ltd. This diverse background further enhances his ability to steer Geoquip Marine towards future success.

Pedersen will be based at Geoquip Marine’s headquarters in Switzerland, taking over from outgoing CEO Richard Turner. Turner, who has been instrumental in leading the company since 2022, will continue to support Geoquip Marine as a senior advisor in the lead-up to Pedersen’s arrival in January. This transition ensures continuity and maintains momentum for the organization.

Under Pedersen’s leadership, Geoquip Marine is poised to drive significant expansion. The company is currently generating revenues of $125 million annually and is set to invest heavily in new geotechnical equipment, vessels, onshore laboratories, and talent acquisition. These investments aim to enhance the company’s sector exposure to new opportunities in oil and gas, subsea cabling, carbon capture and storage (CCS), and scientific research.

Geoquip Marine’s revenue is expected to more than double over the next five years, reflecting the sector’s growing need for reliable and high-quality geotechnical data. The company’s commitment to safety is paramount, with a strong focus on delivering exceptional results even under the most challenging conditions.
