OMV discovers gas in Norwegian Sea, to consider tieback to Aasta Hansteen

### OMV’s Gas Discovery in the Norwegian Sea: A Strategic Move Towards Sustainable Energy Mix

OMV (Norge) AS, a subsidiary of OMV AG, has made a significant gas discovery in production license 1194 (PL 1194) in the Norwegian Sea. The exploration well, designated as 6605/6-1 S, targeted the ‘Haydn/Monn’ prospects and has found substantial reserves of natural gas.

#### Key Discoveries and Implications

– **Location and Infrastructure**: The well is situated approximately 65 kilometers southwest of the existing infrastructure of the Polarled pipeline and the Aasta Hansteen field. This proximity offers a significant advantage for potential gas field development, as leveraging existing infrastructure can lead to faster planning, lower development costs, and a reduced carbon footprint.

– **Recoverable Volumes**: The initial estimates suggest that the well has encountered gas with recoverable volumes between 30 and 140 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMboe). This substantial discovery has the potential to contribute significantly to OMV’s production portfolio and further solidify its position as a reliable gas supplier in Europe.

– **Drilling Operations**: The exploration well was drilled by the Transocean Norge rig, which successfully targeted the Upper Cretaceous reservoir rocks in the Springar and Nise formations. The primary exploration target in the Springar formation encountered a gas column of approximately 20 meters, with 13 meters in sandstone reservoir rocks of moderate to good quality. The secondary target in the Nise formation found a gas column of about five meters in sandstone reservoir rocks with moderate quality.

– **Strategic Focus**: OMV aims to increase the share of gas in its production mix to about 60% by 2030. Berislav Gašo, OMV’s executive vice president for energy, emphasizes the importance of this discovery in contributing to a more sustainable energy mix. By focusing
