### Eni Commences Gas Production at Argo Cassiopea Field Offshore Sicily
**Italy’s Energy Future Takes a Significant Step Forward: Eni Initiates Gas Production from Argo Cassiopea**
In a major milestone for Italy’s energy sector, **Eni** has successfully started gas production from the **Argo Cassiopea** field located in the Strait of Sicily. This achievement marks the culmination of a comprehensive three-year development project, underscoring Eni’s commitment to enhancing Italy’s energy security and leveraging low-emission sources.
#### A Showcase in Sustainable Operations
The initial gas production is sourced from one of four subsea wells drilled in recent months. This offshore operation is notable not only for its technical prowess but also for its environmental sustainability. The production process is conducted entirely underwater, minimizing visual impact and achieving near-zero emissions. Furthermore, a dedicated 3.6 MWp array of photovoltaic panels has been installed, ensuring that the project achieves carbon neutrality for Scope 1 and 2 emissions.
#### A Strategic Partnership
The Argo Cassiopea field is the result of a collaborative effort between Eni and Energean, with Eni operating at a 60% share and Energean holding the remaining 40%. This joint venture signifies a strong partnership aimed at maximizing the exploitation of offshore resources in the Mediterranean Sea.
#### Logistics and Infrastructure
The produced gas is transported through a 60 km subsea pipeline to the Gela processing plant. From there, the gas will be processed and subsequently fed into Italy’s national grid. This seamless logistics chain ensures that the gas can efficiently contribute to meeting Italy’s energy demands.
#### Reserves and Production Expectations
The Argo Cassiopea field boasts an estimated 10 billion cubic meters of gas reserves. With peak annual production projected at 1.5 billion cubic meters, this project is poised to play a significant role in Italy’s energy landscape for years
