Tamboran Initiates Ambitious Drilling Campaign in Beetaloo Sub-Basin
In a significant move for the Australian energy sector, Tamboran B2 Pty. Ltd., in partnership with Falcon Oil & Gas Ltd., has launched a notable drilling campaign in the Beetaloo sub-basin, Northern Territory, Australia. The campaign kicked off with the spudding of the Shenandoah South 2H (SS2H) horizontal well in Exploration Permit (EP) 98 on August 30, 2024.
This drilling campaign is a major milestone, marking the beginning of the Shenandoah South Pilot Project, which aims to unlock the potential of the Amungee Member B-shale. The SS2H well, along with its companion well, the Shenandoah South 3H (SS3H), is designed to drill horizontal sections of approximately 3,000 meters each. These wells are expected to target the Amungee Member B-shale at an estimated target depth of 3,020 meters and will be completed within a timely 30-day period.
Following the drilling of SS2H, Tamboran B2 will immediately focus on drilling the SS3H well from the same well pad. Both wells will utilize an H&P Rig, ensuring efficient operation and optimal results. The drilling operations will concurrently prepare for a stimulation program, which will be executed utilizing Liberty Energy’s frac fleet recently mobilized from the United States to Australia. The Liberty Energy fleet is renowned for its enhanced efficiency and capability to complete more stages per day, thereby optimizing gas flows.
The strategic placement of the drilling pads and the integration of advanced technological equipment are pivotal in this campaign. The Shenandoah South Pilot Project envisions producing 40 million cubic feet of natural gas per day by mid-2026, subject to final regulatory and stakeholder approvals. Once flow testing is completed for each well, they will be suspended as future producers to supply the proposed project.
