Tamboran Seeks to Unlock Beetaloo Sub-Basin’s Drilling Potential
Tamboran (B2) Pty. Ltd., along with its joint venture partner, Falcon Oil and Gas Ltd., has commenced a significant drilling campaign in the Beetaloo sub-basin located in the Northern Territory, Australia. This ambitious project aims to tap into the vast, untapped gas reserves within the sub-basin, which spans approximately 8.7 million acres.
The campaign’s first phase began with the spudding of the Shenandoah South 2H (SS2H) horizontal well under exploration permit 98. Once the SS2H well is drilled, Tamboran will immediately move on to the Shenandoah South 3H (SS3H) well, which will be drilled on the same well pad location ahead of a stimulation program. Both wells will be drilled using the H&P Rig and will feature a horizontal section of approximately 3,000 meters targeting the Amungee Member B-shale at an estimated target depth of 3,020 meters.
Each well is expected to take about 30 days to complete, marking a strategic approach to maximize efficiency. Liberty Energy’s frac fleet, mobilized from the United States, will play a crucial role in the stimulation phase. The fleet’s advanced capabilities are expected to significantly increase the efficiency of the stimulation process, enabling Tamboran and Falcon to optimize gas flows through up to 60 stages per well.
The initial flow test results for the two wells are anticipated in early 2025. Post-flow testing, both wells will be suspended as future producers, thereby supporting the proposed 40-MMcfd Shenandoah South Pilot Project. This pilot project, expected to commence production in mid-2026, is pivotal as it promises to demonstrate the deliverability of the Amungee Member B-shale, leveraging the extensive horizontal sections of the wells.
An additional four-well drilling campaign is planned for 2025 to
