**TotalEnergies Begins Gas Production at Impressive Fenix Field Offshore Argentina**
In a significant milestone for the global oil and gas industry, TotalEnergies has successfully initiated gas production from the newly developed Fenix field, located approximately 60 kilometers off the coast of Tierra del Fuego in southern Argentina. This achievement underscores the company’s ability to execute projects efficiently and maintain a robust production profile in one of the region’s most strategic gas hubs.
The Fenix field is part of the Cuenca Marina Austral 1 (CMA-1) concession, under which TotalEnergies holds a substantial 37.5% operated interest. The consortium also includes Harbour Energy, contributing another 37.5%, while Pan American Energy shares a 25% stake. This collaborative effort highlights the synergy and expertise required to develop such complex offshore ventures.
The Fenix development boasts an impressive production capacity of 10 million cubic meters per day, equivalent to approximately 70,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (70,000 boe/d). This feat has been achieved through the deployment of a state-of-the-art, unmanned platform situated in 70 meters of water depth. The platform is seamlessly integrated with the existing CMA-1 infrastructure, leveraging established pipelines and facilities to streamline operations.
Gas produced at the Fenix field is transported via a 35-kilometer subsea pipeline to the TotalEnergies-operated Véga Pléyade platform. From there, it undergoes treatment at specialized facilities owned by TotalEnergies, including the Río Cullen and Cañadon Alfa plants. This comprehensive system ensures not only efficient production but also robust handling and processing of the extracted gas.
One of the standout features of the Fenix project is its commitment to sustainability. By leveraging existing infrastructure, TotalEnergies has managed to achieve a remarkably low carbon intensity of 9 kilograms of CO2e per barrel of oil equivalent (boe).
