Talos Energy CEO Tim Duncan Steps Down; Mills to Take Helm
Talos Energy Inc. has announced that Tim Duncan, the company’s President and CEO, has stepped down from his role effective August 29. Joseph A. Mills, who has served on the company’s board of directors since March, will serve as interim President and CEO until a successor is in place. The company’s board has initiated a search for a successor in partnership with an executive search firm.
Duncan had been a founding member, President, and CEO of Talos Energy. Prior to his role at Talos Energy, Duncan was the Senior Vice President of Business Development at Phoenix Exploration Company LP, where he was responsible for business development evaluations and negotiations. He also worked in various reservoir engineering and portfolio evaluation functions at Amerada Hess Corporation, Zilkha Energy Company, and Pennzoil E&P Company.
Mills brings a wealth of industry experience and knowledge, boasting over 42 years in senior leadership positions and serving on the boards of both public and private companies in the oil and gas sector. He currently serves as CEO of Samson Resources II, LLC, a position he has held since March 2017.
Prior to joining Samson Resources, Mills served in various leadership roles, including Chairman and CEO positions for several public and private oil and gas companies, such as El Paso Energy, Sonat Exploration, Black Stone Minerals, and Montierra Minerals & Production, LP. Mills received a bachelor’s degree in petroleum land management from the University of Texas and a master’s degree in finance from the University of Houston.
Talos reaffirmed its third-quarter 2024 production guidance and operational and financial guidance for the full year 2024. The company expects average daily production for the third quarter to be between 92,000 and 97,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
