**Title:** ABS Leads Digital Twin and Condition Monitoring Project for Petrobras FPSO
In a significant development for the oil and gas industry, the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has secured a contract to provide and test a digital twin solution for real-time condition monitoring for a Petrobras floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) unit. This innovative project aims to support older assets by using advanced digital technologies.
### The Digital Twin Solution
The ABS digital twin solution will create a virtual replica of the Petrobras FPSO, enabling real-time condition monitoring and advanced analysis of the asset’s structural integrity. As part of this undertaking, ABS has selected Akselos S.A. to deploy its Structural Performance Management software. This software will be evaluated over the course of a year by monitoring one of the four FPSO units in the Cessão Onerosa oil field.
### Key Objectives and Benefits
Condition monitoring is crucial for the life extension of older assets, ensuring they operate safely beyond their design life. ABS, with its extensive technical knowledge and experience in supporting clients with effective life extension programs, will utilize real-time operational data from Akselos to enhance its analysis for Petrobras. The integration of Akselos’s software into the digital twin solution promises unprecedented speed, scalability, and accuracy in simulating the structural integrity of the FPSO. This approach allows for the extension of asset life while maintaining safety standards.
### Expert Insights
Matthew Tremblay, ABS Vice President, Global Offshore, emphasized the importance of condition monitoring in supporting older assets: “Condition monitoring is an important process for supporting older assets. The life extension evaluation process takes place to verify that the unit will be able to operate in conformance with existing safety standards beyond its design life.” Adding, “Incorporating real-time operational data from Akselos will provide even more information to improve our analysis for Petrobras.”
Thomas Leurent, CEO of Akselos, further underlined the capabilities of their software: “Through our expertise in Structural Performance Management, we are able to offer simulations of the Petrobras FPSO with unprecedented speed, scalability, and accuracy. We have the unique capability to simulate the structural integrity of the entire FPSO in real-time and at high fidelity. In this way, the asset life can be extended as safely as possible.”
